Join us TONIGHT; DevCon Recap and Roundtable Discussion – we’ll be streaming to web too.

As posted here, we’ll be meeting tonight at 6 PM.  Jason Mundok, David Hollander and Alan Deffenderfer will be discussing what they learned at DevCon, in a roundtable discussion format.  Not a meeting to miss if you didn’t make it to DevCon.

As with the July meeting, we’ll stream to uStream:

We hope you can join us, in person or otherwise.

Thanks to Tony Celini; Design Critique and Discussion next meeting!

We’d like to thank Tony Celini of CAB Inc. for presenting at Tuesday’s meeting.

24 group members came by to listen in as Tony walked through an excellent case study of an integration project linking a custom FileMaker application with New Millennium’s Genesis Accounting System and World Sync’s SyncDek. He focused on three key factors for a successful project: process, controls and return on investment (ROI). These factors influenced the order in which modules were developed and provided justification for choosing certain applications over others.

Thanks to Jason Mundok; June meeting plans

Thanks to Jason Mundok for presenting Tuesday night!  He did a great job walking through real-world, production examples of dynamic reporting and script triggers in FileMaker 10 before a group of 16 souls.

We were originally planning a Design Critique for June along the lines of our Critique last fall, but I think I’m going to push that back to July.  There’s a great presenter in the pipeline that we’re trying to set up and hopefully will have with us in June – this is partly in response to those of you who asked for presentations on accounting package integration, and partly because, well, he’s a fantastic speaker.  More when I can confirm it.

Colin

We’re soliciting presentation proposals

We’re going to have an open presentation slot in July, and then September through the rest of the year.

If you’re interested in presenting, please get in touch with me.  We’ll consider any topic that fits the interests of the group.

Best, Colin Keefe

Thanks to Jesse Barnum

A quick thanks to Jesse for presenting last night.  We had 21 attendees for a very informative discussion of the 360Works suite of plugins and the java framework underlying them.   There are interesting implications for document management, collaboration and markup with some of these plugins – very interesting stuff.

John Gehman won the raffle and joined FMPUG the same day!

See you next month.

For those who can’t make it to the meeting tonight…online video

Just a reminder that for those of you who’re just a bit too far to attend in person:

FMPug has been posting selected presentation content on the FMPug site, available for FMPug members.  You can access it here:

http://www.fmpug.com/fmpugtv/

Ernest Koe’s ProofGroup presentation is up at this URL, as well as Jess Barnum’s presentation, both filmed at the Orlando FL FMPug chapter.  Kudos to Andy for putting this together.

Note that you need to join FMPug to access most of the content, but you can see a free 12 minute video introduction by Jesse to get a sense of how it all lays out.

If I haven’t harped on it enough, online videos aren’t the only reason to join FMPug.  Here’s a grid of benefits:

http://www.fmpug.com/join.php

A virtual membership will get you into the FMPug site and its benefits; a portion of a Chapter membership goes to support us at PFUG (since we’re a local FMPug chapter), plus eligibility for FMPug member giveaways at meetings (like tonight’s, for example).

Just a quick reminder – we’re meeting tomorrow at 6 PM; Jesse Barnum from 360Works is going to present.  Should be some pretty compelling stuff.

We’re also planning on taking him out for a drink after (depending on how things go) and anyone’s welcome to join us.

Thanks to ProofGroup! 3/24 Meeting Recap

We had 18 people out here Tuesday, including a couple of new faces, to hear Ernest Koe discuss ProofGroup‘s fmSpark and ninjaCal products.  I have to say personally I was very impressed with the quality of the products and especially the elegance of the underlying code.  These products are a bargain just for the education they provide when you get under the hood.

They’re also great examples of modular, portable code.
